"A TASTE OF
REALITY"
* * *
At 91, and just
one son,
whose care she did depend,
disaster came, and made her lame,
and problems just begin.
* * *
Now sitting still at the window sill
in the "Old Folks " nursing care;
as she does each day in an anxious way..
just waiting with an eager stare.
* * *
From the street in view, she can see just who
should on the scene.. appear;
and she looks for Tim, her only kin..
who placed her here last year;
when she tripped and fell in a dizzy spell,
and a broken hip was done....
and no one else could offer help,
except her only son.
* * *
So the price to pay was have her stay
and placed here in this home;
Tim bade farewell as the teardrops fell..
then left her there alone.
* * *
But he went each day and would always say;
" how much he loves her so,
and he'd be there in rain or fair",
but alas! he did not know:
that a call would come, to the war return,
back to the battle line...
in old Baghdad where the world is mad,
and he doesn't have much time.
* * *
So he dialed the phone to the nursing home
to bade Mom sad farewell;
but with her age the hearing fades
and the news was hard to tell.
* * *
Tim managed to- get these words through;
"that he would soon be back."
Then off he went in duty bent..
to battle in Iraq.
* * *
So, she sits and waits, anticipates,
to see her son again;
but the days go by and the weeks they fly
and the months add to a year.
and everyday in the same old way,
she sits like a stature there.
* * *
She does not know what the facts now show,
and does not comprehend,
for the news had come that Tim, her son,
had met a timely end.
For a choice he made when a hand grenade
had found it's way on line;
Tim quickly fell on the blasting shell,
and saved ten lives in time.
* * *
Now the world will know of a new hero,
but
Mom still sits at home,
with a wishful eye at the passers by,
but she is not alone...
For God is there with His loving care,
as He has been all along!
