With
my feet in the cool clear water,
I sat alone on the end of the dock,
The sun warming my neck and shoulders,
once in a while I'd skip a few rocks.
The sky was clear as the window of
time,
as were my memories of you,
I so remember enjoying our mornings,
watching nature bathe in the dew.
You would hold the rose between your
fingers,
and smell it's fragrance in,
Then you'de smile and look far away,
and gently touch my aging skin.
Each day we'd walk to the end of the
drive,
so you could keep up your strength,
And I remember the disappointment in
your face,
when you found you couldn't go the
full length.
It was then I knew that one day soon,
I'd be left here all alone,
That you would sleep the eternal rest,
that the living always calls upon.
Sometimes I hear your voice on the
wind,
and I feel your embrace in my dreams,
I see your smile in my own reflection,
and your warmth in the bright sun
beams.
Each morning I walk our very same
path,
and I stop to smell the rose,
I watch the birds as they flutter
their wings,
in the meadow where the honeysuckle
grows.
