Not quite as haughty
But wiser today
Not quite as childish
A little more gray.
Not quite as active
As I used to be
Not quite as nimble
I ache at the knee.
Not quite as chipper
My gait is now slow
Not quite as robust
Or eager to go.
Not quite as hearty
My joints are now sore
Not quite as ageless
I stand at God’s door.
Not quite as youthful
I’m ripe on the vine
My fruit is now mellow
Like brandy red wine.
