I SMILE ONCE MORE

While these words of tribute I reach for,
it's memories that will guide me through-
All the feelings of love and understanding,
that I received so lavishly from you-

When Mother's Day approaches,
year by fleeting year-
I look back and smile once more,
then wipe that single tear

Roses and tulips in your favorite vase,
golden trinkets on slender chains-
Perfume and chocolates, cards and dinners,
you were our sunshine, through the rain

You helped us search for the rainbows,
when the storms of life grew strong-
And loved us even moreso-
though you knew, we'd done wrong

You had the ability to see right through,
and hear what was never said-
I spent half my childhood searching,
for the eyes in the back of your head

The Mother's curse you gave us all,
you'll pay for your raisin' ten times fold-
So we had no choice but to pass it along-
that ancient wives tale, of old

While Mother's Day should make me sad,
knowing you are no longer here,
I just can't help but smile once more,
while wiping that single tear

Mother,
I'll always be grateful for our time together,
and the avenues of grand delight-
Your labors of love, that was never-ending-
through the countless number of sleepless nights

Happy Mother's Day, Mom
Now you really are the Angel I always knew
you were!
