I'll Wait
I'd give you my
tears if they'de replenish,
the moisture of your wilted soul,
If they'de restore the growth of life,
and once again make you whole.
It rips me apart
when I look in your eyes,
and vacancy is all I see.
I know there's a beast caged within,
one that needs to be free.
It pains me so to
witness your suffering,
in a cruel world all your own,
I can't reach to you often enough,
for you to know you're not alone.
You tread through
the motions of every day,
when darkness comes you bail,
It's as though you return to the
battle,
from the memories your mind sets sail.
I'll not give up on
keeping you here,
and I'll not let you give in,
Our love is too strong to let you go
now,
it's a war of ghosts, that we must
win.
You toss and turn
and call their names,
the night air chases your voice,
That's when I know they've come to
visit,
leaving you without choice.
You wake in a pool
of blood and sweat,
drowning beneath it's waves,
I find you at first light staring out
the window,
paying tribute to your own grave.
So I wrap my arms
around you,
and let my tears flow through your
hair,
Wishing they would wash away,
all the weight my soldier bears.
You fought the
battle, you fought it hard,
now you fight one of your own,
I waited then, and again I'll wait,
for you to finally reach home.
