Sue was sitting at an airport
terminal, waiting to board a plane.
She was sitting there with several
other people who were also waiting,
whom she did not know.
As she waited, she pulled out her
Bible and started to read. All of a
sudden she felt as if all the people
sitting around her, were looking at
her. she looked up, she then realized
they were looking just over her head,
in the direction right behind her.
She turned to see what everyone was
looking at, and when she did, she saw
a stewardess pushing a wheelchair,
with the ugliest man she had ever
seen. She said he also had long white
hair that was in the biggest mess she
had ever seen, it was so tangled and
messed up. His face was nothing but
wrinkles, and he looked totally
unfriendly.
She didn't know why, but she felt
drawn to the man, and thought at first
that God wanted her to witness to him.
She was thinking in her mind, "Oh God,
please not now, not here".
No matter what she did, she could not
get the man off her mind, and suddenly
she knew what God wanted her to do.
She was to brush his hair, and help
his appearance, for where ever he was
going. However,she didn't even have a
hairbrush with her.
She went over and knelt down in front
of the old man, and asked, "Sir may I
brush your hair for you.
He
said "WHAT?"
She thought, "Oh great, he's hard of
hearing". Again, and a little louder
she asked, "Sir, may I have the honor
of brushing your hair for you".
He answered "IF YOU ARE GONNA TALK TO
ME, YOU GOTTA SPEAK UP, I'M
PRACTICALLY DEAF".
So again she spoke, almost yelling,
"Sir may I please have the honor of
brushing your hair for you?"
Everyone was watching to see what his
response would be. By this time she
didn't care what people thought, she
felt as though she must brush his
hair.
As everyone watched to see what his
response would be, the old man just
looked at her, very confused, and said
"Well I guess, if you really want
too".
She said, "I don't even have a brush,
but maybe I can borrow one, so I
thought I would ask".
The old man said "Look in the bag
hanging on the back of my chair, there
is a brush in there".
She took the brush from the bag, and
started brushing his hair. (She has a
little girl with long hair, so she has
plenty of practice brushing out
tangles, and knows how to be gentle
with him.) She worked and worked a
long time and until every tangle was
out.
Just as she was finishing, she
heard the old man crying, and she went
to the front of his chair, put her
hands on his knees, kneeling in front
of him, looking directly into his eyes
and said, "Sir, do you know Jesus?"
He answered, "Yes, I know Jesus. You
see, my bride told me she wouldn't
marry me unless I knew Jesus as my
Lord and Master, so I learned all
about him, and asked him to come into
my heart many years ago, before I
married my wife."
He continued, "You know, I am on my
way home to go see my wife. I have
been in the hospital for a long time,
and had to have special surgery in
this town, far away from my home. My
wife couldn't come with me, because
she is so frail herself".
Through his tears and sobs, he said
"I was so worried about how terrible
my hair looked, and I didn't want her
to see me looking so awful, but I
couldn't brush it all by myself .
Tears were rolling down his cheeks, as
he thanked her over and over again.
She was also crying, and as she looked
around, she could not see a dry eye in
anyone standing around watching.
Everyone was crying, and as they
started boarding the plane, she
noticed the stewardess who had been
watching, was also crying, and stopped her
and asked her, "Why did you do that?"
Right there was the opportunity, the
door had been opened, to share with
someone else, the love of God.
"We don't always understand God's
ways, but be ready, he may use us to
meet the need of someone else, like he
met the need of this precious old man,
and the calling out to a lost soul who
needed to know of his wonderful Love.
He also gives us these opportunities,
so that we may plant a seed, in order
to harvest a fulfillment of our own
needs, so never miss an opportunity to
assist someone in need. We always reap
what we sow.
