ON THE WINGS OF FREEDOM

As the evening sun disappears from the sky,
and the world pauses to catch it's breath-
When the first stars appear on the horizons above-
It's you that fills my dreams, and my heart with love-

You can find tears on my pillow,
and stains upon my soul-
From the moment we met so long ago-
I knew without you, I could never remain whole

So I fall apart in silence,
when in the eyes of our young I stare-
and find myself reaching for you,
through memories raw and bare-

When I lay them down to sleep each night,
I pray they'll understand-
that Daddy loves them from where he is-
for he's a Soldier with an Angel's hand

From weapons of battle to wings of freedom,
I felt your spirit soar-
It was love of Country, God and Family,
that led you to that distant shore

When I hear others say you've fallen,
on the battlefield of war and life-
And it's sad you died in agony,
leaving two children and a wife-

I just can't help but tell them,
that fallen you've never done-
And there is no pain and agony,
in the arms of the Heavenly Son-

When they ask why I'm not angry,
I point at our young and say-
You went before us in battle,
but we'll meet again, some day

I have no time for bitterness,
your life meant more to me-
And when in the eyes of our young I stare,
it's our love, I always see
