SEVEN SHINY PENNIES

.                                                          .

Today I took a little walk,
To try and ease my mind.
And as I walked, I heard a voice,
So I stopped and looked behind.

She was just a child sitting there,
when I looked she smiled at me.
"Come, sit down and rest a while",
She said so pleasantly.

I asked the child "How old are you",
and six is what she replied.
"But seven is my lucky number,
& that keeps me occupied."

"You see, the 7th is my birthday,
and 7 is what I'll be.
Surely then I'll be adopted,
cause I've been waiting so patiently."

"Yes, they come and go here,
but usually the babies go.
I asked them why they don't choose me,
they say I am too old."

"But I'm not worried, we all have a time,
& soon it will be my lucky day.
July the 7th is coming soon,
someone will surely take me away."

"You see, Jesus likes number 7,
this little bible tells me so.
And He loves all the children (big or small),
so I know I'm not too old."

"I have 7 shiny pennies,
To give to a MOM or DAD.
It's not much but they're sure shiny,
all the money I've ever had."

"I have seven little crayons,
Red and Yellow, Black and White,
I have Green and Blue and Orange too,
but PINK would sure be nice!"

"I've drawn 7 pretty pictures,
of 7 pretty birds.
Jesus likes the sparrow,
it says so in His word."

"And sometimes when I'm sitting here,
I think what it would be like.
To see these little birds I've drawn,
just fly into the sky."

"Did you know you could move a mountain,
if you have faith & believe.
By Faith the walls of Jericho fell,
& by Faith I know I'll leave."

"Well maybe you should go now,
I don't want to waste your time.
But thanks for stopping and talking to me,
usually people pass me by."

When I got home, I couldn't sleep,
I thought of this little girl.
Sitting there upon that bench,
with one care in the world.

She wanted a place to call her home,
where pretty flowers grow.
A place where birds fly in the sky,
just a place to call her home.

So the next day, I rushed right out,
to go bring her home with me.
Today was the 7th of the 7th month,
this would make her so happy.

But when I arrived, she wasn't there,
I asked "Where did this child go?"
They said "Seven minutes after Midnight,
Jesus called her home."

So I walked out to where we had sat,
to try and ease my mind.
When I looked down there on the bench,
I thought I saw something shine.

Seven Shiny Pennies,
were laid there in a row.
She knew no money was needed,
In the place where she would go.

And on her paper, laid her crayons,
but eight instead of seven.
She had written in big pink words,
"JESUS CALLED ME HOME TO HEAVEN."

Then I looked down, beside my feet,
another paper on the lawn,
But where did those seven birdies go,
the ones that she had drawn?

Then I heard a sound above my head,
And I looked up to the sky.
Seven pretty sparrows,
Were singing there on high.

I picked her little bible up,
and tears began to fall,
"To Everything There Is A Season",
is the scripture that I saw.

My prayer to those who read this poem, if you are an "orphan," may God bless and surround you with loving people and may He shine His light upon you daily.  To those who are more fortunate, my prayer to you is that you will never take for granted the love that surrounds you.  May you always freely give it to others as you have freely received.
